Magento Developer
Support and extend Magento/Adobe Commerce stores during discovery and migration, and help plan the move to Shopify for clients replatforming off Magento.
UVT works with a lot of brands moving off Magento and Adobe Commerce, and understanding the system they're leaving is as important as building the one they're moving to. As a Magento Developer here, you'll work on the source side of migrations: auditing existing Magento instances, identifying what custom code actually needs to be replicated on Shopify versus what can be dropped, and occasionally doing direct Magento maintenance for clients mid-transition.
What You'll Do
- Audit existing Magento 1 and Magento 2 / Adobe Commerce instances during migration discovery: custom modules, extensions, data model, integrations.
- Help the migration team triage what functionality is genuinely custom (needs rebuilding on Shopify) versus already native to Shopify or covered by an app.
- Perform direct Magento maintenance and fixes for clients still running Magento during a transition period.
- Document Magento-specific technical decisions clearly enough for a Shopify developer with no Magento background to act on them.
- Work alongside the Shopify development team rather than in isolation. This role exists at the seam between two platforms.
What We're Looking For
- Real, hands-on experience with Magento 2 (Adobe Commerce experience is a strong plus): custom module development, theme customization, and data model familiarity.
- Comfortable reading and reasoning about someone else's Magento codebase, not just your own.
- PHP proficiency, and enough familiarity with Shopify's data model to translate between the two conceptually, even without deep Shopify development experience.
- Clear, specific written communication. A lot of this role is explaining what a piece of Magento code actually does to people who'll rebuild it on a different platform.
Nice to have: experience with a prior Magento-to-Shopify migration specifically, Magento 1 experience (for legacy migrations), ERP or OMS integration experience.
What We Offer
Remote-first work, and a role that's genuinely useful rather than a slowly-declining legacy position. Magento expertise is exactly what makes a migration safe, and that expertise is in real demand here, not winding down.
