Shopify Developer
Build and maintain Shopify storefronts, themes, sections, custom functionality and app integrations, for migration and new-build projects.
As a Shopify Developer at UVT, you'll build the storefronts our clients actually launch: theme development on Online Store 2.0, custom sections, and the functionality that doesn't come out of the box. Most of what you build lands on a real migration or new-build project, not a sandbox exercise, so the work ships and gets used.
What You'll Do
- Build and customize Shopify themes using Liquid, sections and blocks on Online Store 2.0 architecture.
- Develop custom functionality where Shopify's native features and the app ecosystem don't cover what a client's business needs: configurators, bundles, custom checkout logic on Shopify Plus.
- Work on platform migrations: mapping data models from Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and other platforms onto Shopify's structure, and rebuilding theme functionality to match.
- Integrate third-party apps and APIs (ERP, CRM, marketing tools) into Shopify storefronts.
- Audit and improve page speed and Core Web Vitals on existing stores. Performance work is a real, ongoing part of this role, not an afterthought.
- Collaborate directly with designers and project leads rather than working from a spec handed down with no context.
What We're Looking For
- Solid experience with Shopify theme development: Liquid, Shopify's section/block architecture, and the Shopify Admin API or Storefront API.
- Comfortable with modern JavaScript/TypeScript; React experience is a plus for headless or app-embedded work.
- Real experience either building Shopify stores from scratch or migrating one onto Shopify from another platform.
- Can read a design file and build it precisely, without losing performance or accessibility along the way.
Nice to have: Shopify Plus experience (Checkout Extensibility, Shopify Functions), familiarity with a prior platform's architecture (Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce) from having built on it directly, experience with headless Shopify (Hydrogen).
