Shopify Theme Developer
Build custom Shopify themes and sections, Liquid-first, fast by default, for brands who need something a stock theme can't deliver.
A theme is the first thing a customer actually sees, and the one piece of a Shopify build with no room to hide a bad decision. As a Shopify Theme Developer at UVT, you'll build custom themes and sections from scratch, Online Store 2.0 architecture, Liquid, and performance as a design constraint from the first line of code, not a cleanup pass at the end.
What You'll Do
- Build custom Shopify themes from a design file: section-based architecture, reusable blocks, and merchant-editable settings that actually make sense to someone using the theme editor.
- Write clean, maintainable Liquid, not code that only you can safely touch six months later.
- Optimize for Core Web Vitals from the start: image handling, script loading, and layout decisions that keep a theme fast as a catalogue grows.
- Build and maintain reusable sections and components across projects, so each new theme isn't started completely from zero.
- Work directly with designers during build, flagging early when something won't translate cleanly into a section-based theme.
What We're Looking For
- Real, hands-on Shopify theme development experience: Liquid, Online Store 2.0's section/block model, and the Shopify theme editor's actual constraints.
- A genuine eye for performance, not just visual accuracy. A theme that looks right but loads slowly is a problem this role exists to prevent.
- Comfortable working from a Figma file precisely, including the parts that are tedious to get exactly right (spacing, responsive breakpoints, hover states).
- JavaScript proficiency for the interactive parts of a theme that Liquid alone can't handle.
Nice to have: experience building themes for migration projects specifically (matching an existing brand on a new platform), Shopify Theme Store submission experience, experience with Shopify CLI and theme development workflows.
What We Offer
Remote-first work, and theme-building as a craft taken seriously, not a commodity task squeezed between other priorities.
How to Apply
