WooCommerce Developer

Audit and extend WooCommerce stores during migration discovery, and help rebuild their functionality properly on Shopify.

WooCommerce stores are usually a plugin stack held together by habit, and migrating one off WordPress means knowing exactly which plugins are load-bearing and which ones can simply go away. As a WooCommerce Developer at UVT, you'll work the source side of these migrations: understanding what a client's current site actually does, so the Shopify team rebuilds the right things.

What You'll Do

  • Audit a client's active plugin stack during migration discovery and sort each one into: native to Shopify, available via an app, or genuinely custom functionality that needs rebuilding.
  • Document WooCommerce-specific data structures (product variations, custom fields, order meta) clearly enough for a Shopify developer with no WordPress background to map them correctly.
  • Perform direct WooCommerce maintenance and fixes for clients still running their current site during a transition period.
  • Flag checkout, tax and shipping configuration quirks that are easy to miss when a store has been patched together over years of plugin updates.
  • Work alongside the Shopify development team as the WooCommerce-side expert, not in isolation.

What We're Looking For

  • Real, hands-on WooCommerce and WordPress development experience: theme customization, plugin configuration, and comfort reading PHP you didn't write.
  • Comfortable auditing a live site you don't control and documenting what you find clearly.
  • Enough familiarity with Shopify's data model to translate between the two platforms conceptually, even without deep Shopify development experience.
  • Clear written communication. A lot of this role is explaining what a piece of functionality actually does to a team that will rebuild it on a different platform.

Nice to have: experience with a prior WooCommerce-to-Shopify migration specifically, WooCommerce payment gateway integration experience, familiarity with common plugins (WooCommerce Subscriptions, Bundles, membership plugins).

What We Offer

Remote-first work, and a role that matters for exactly as long as WooCommerce migrations keep coming in, which given WooCommerce's maintenance burden is a steady, ongoing need.

How to Apply

Use the form on this page. Tell us about a WooCommerce site you've worked on: what plugins it depended on, and what you'd have rebuilt differently.
